Last weekend we went to the "Brombachsee" for the Lost Mills International SUP Race which was an awesome event with lots of very fast paddlers from all over the world. It was a great opportunity to meet friends again and make new friendships as well. 

I felt pretty good on my Naish Javelin LE 14´ x 23 1/8´´ and so I was able to paddle the 200m sprint distance in 1:05,00 which brought me into 5th place. As I couldn´t better my time in the second run this was my "Fastest Paddler on Earth" result - I´m super happy with it!

On Saturday we had the 18k LONG distance race through the small and the big Lake Brombach with two runs in between to cross the damm which separated both lakes. The girls started 3min after the boys so we could watch how this incredible big male fleet was starting. At our start I still felt the two hard sprints of the day before in my legs and so I wasn´t able to stay in the first girls group. It was a very long and tough race and I was really happy when I finally reached the finish line on the beach…

Along with my teammates Casper Steinfath and Manca Notar I had a great weekend of competitions - awesome atmosphere and very well-organized races…

Winning Wave and Beach Race 

As finally warmer temperatures reached northern Germany I had a great weekend paddling together with my dad and my brother. Light north-easterly winds, this were great conditions to launch our boards at the NAISH Pro Center "Sail & Surf" in Pelzerhaken…

…and paddle a downwinder across the "Lübecker Bucht".

It was awesome to see so many people enjoying the water in many different ways… 

The conditions were nicely with light winds from the back, batteling with my dad and my brother and surfing some chops. 

After 12,5km we reached the "Mövenstein Badeanstalt" in Travemünde. 

My next event is the 2nd tour stop of the German SUP Challenge on Sylt, with a WAVE and a Beach Race competition, starting on Wednesday, 28th of May. 

I´m really looking forward to that…

Naish Javelin LE 12´6´´ x 24´´

…I´m looking forward to the first tour stop of the German SUP Challenge on Fehmarn/Wulfener Hals, which will take place from 01.05. to 04.05.

There will be two competitions (Beach Race and Long Distance) which count for the overall ranking - and the overall event winner will win a Wildcard for the Stand Up Worldseries Worldcup on Fehmarn/Südstrand in July.

Enjoying rides with the Naish Javelin 12´6´´x 24´´

As I was impressed by fotos of the Hawaiian downwinders years ago we thougt it could be fun here on the Canary Islands as well.

Gran Canaria is a pretty much round island, so it´s hard to find a straight course for a long downwinder which makes it a little bit challenging, because for at least some portion the wind is blowing off-/on-shore. Nevertheless we have good conditons with strong winds and decent swell to enjoy nice rides along the coastline with changing landscape:

We start our runs from Arinaga, the training ground for slalom and speed windsurfing or the famous Pozo Izquierdo, known as the proving ground for all well known wave windfings pros…:

finishing after about 15km (Arinaga) or 12km (Pozo) at the beach of Bahía Feliz:

Thanks to my dad for taking these great shots from his Javelin and joyning me on the rides/runs.

Our second runs starts from Bahía Feliz and goes southwestbound passing by the most southern point of the Canary Islands, Punta de Maspalomas, and the great dunes landscape until the finish at the Faro de Maspalomas.

In der nächsten Ausgabe des Stand Up Magazin berichte ich von meinen Erlebnissen beim Finale der Stand Up Worldseries auf Oahu/Hawaii am Turtle Bay Resort. Nach Platz 4 der Overall-Wertung

sollte das neue Board der 2014er Saison ein "Turtle Bay" werden. Doch bei der boot-Düsseldorf kam alles anders:

Leider fehlte es einem Teil des apm-Managements (Starborad-Importeur Deutschland) an sportlichem Verständnis und so kam es vor und nach dem Indoor-Championship zu unüberwindbaren Differenzen, die auch der sonst immer lösungsorientierte Flo Brunner nicht klären konnte. Es war nicht leicht mit dem Stress im Hinterkopf ins Rennen zu gehen, aber gerade mental war ich gut vorbereitet und so gelang mir trotzdem der Sieg. Zwar brachte sich Starboard-Chef Svein Rasmussen hilfreich für mich ein, aber auf Dauer schien auch ihm keine praktikable Lösung möglich.

Was nun?  Die neue Saison steht unmittelbar bevor und keine Boards vorhanden. Kurz überlegt: NAISH ist die allerbeste Alternative und außerdem hatten wir Robby Naish als sympathischen Teamleader in Turtle Bay erlebt…

Sofort wird der Kontakt zum Deutschland-Importeur Bossi Güven gesucht, dessen Wassersportzentrum zudem auch noch nahe zu unserem Wohnort ist. Bossi ist spontan hilfsbereit und freut sich nun über die neuen Naish-Teamfahrer. 

Mit den neuen Javelin LE 12´6´´ern geht es dann gleich bei frühlingshaftem Wetter auf den spiegelglatten See und nächsten Tag weiter nach Gran Canaria.

Leider überstehen ein Kaholo-Wavepaddel (gebrochen) und das Heck eines Javelin´s trotz sehr guter Verpackung den Transport nicht ohne Schaden. Aber nach der Reparatur, durch den sehr bemühten Surfshop LPWS in Pozo, ist die Freude über die bei Wind und Welle super funktionierenden Raceboards umso grösser. Nun gehts ans Eingewöhnen und Trainieren mit dem neuen Material, um noch rechtzeitig zur Saison fit zu werden. Somit  werden die ersten beiden Worldseries Events in Maceio/Brasilien und Abu Dhabi nicht mitgefahren, sondern erst auf Fehmarn bei der German SUP Challenge in die Rennsaison eingestiegen. Sehnsüchtig wird nun auch der nächste Swell für die "Hokua LE" Wave SUP BOards erwartet und auch mit dem Race SUP geht es dann in die Wellen, denn das nächste Turtle Bay Finals kommt bestimmt…
